Exhibitions: Ms. Grace
has been painting the Hudson River and its environs for more than two decades.
In the early 1970’s Ms. Grace traveled from her New York studio to paint the
old mill buildings that used to populate the shores of the Hudson in Piermont,
NY. When the industrial sites were cleared, opening vistas of the Hudson, Ms.
Grace’s attention turned to the river, its marshes, it’s expanse. “What
interests me in the scenes that I paint is the striking, often startling qualities
of the landscape – the fjord that is the Hudson River, with its deep, bright
color. It is an ancient scene, but my approach is a modern one, removed from the
typical narrative qualities and detail of romantic painting that one associates
with this subject because of the legacy of the Hudson River School. These are
paintings of the Hudson, here and now, distilled into broad elements, painted
with a directness of stroke and color, delivering a sense of the present.”
Ms.
Grace currently lives and maintains a studio in the Hudson Valley.
